Continuing our summer coast cruise brevets, this time you'll venture north to Dana Point and back. This is an out and back route starting from Coronado Brewing Company on Knoxville St. In addition to the beauty of the Southern California coastline you'll be passing while riding north and south, you will only need to deal with 1 control at Spunky and Tudor Deli off of the Street of the Blue Lantern Dana Point. Immediately after the control, you'll make your descent down Cove Rd where you'll take in the amazing view of the Dana Point Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. Another name for this 200k is "Surfin' USA" as you will pass a fair number of the famous surf spots listed in the lyrics.

This brevet has the option to ride through Camp Pendleton if you have a base pass. See the link to Camp Pendleton's page on how to apply for the DBIDS Credential (https://www.pendleton.marines.mil/Base-Access/Recreational-Bicycling/). The page will explain where to apply for your pass and the hours of operation. It is free and will be valid for 12 calendar months from the date of issuance. YOU WILL NEED TO OBTAIN THE ENTRY PASS BEFORE THE DAY OF THIS BREVET.

ALL SAN DIEGO RANDONNEURS EVENTS ARE ONLY OPEN TO PARTICIPANTS WHOSE RUSA MEMBERSHIP IS CURRENT.

Randonneuring is a self-supporting event  – There will be no day of registration available and if there are any volunteers available, they will only be at Start/Finish or establish controls in the cue sheet. There is no SAG for this event.

All riders must follow RUSA rules and can be found here. Helmet, lights and reflective gear are a must (lights and reflective gear must be worn between dusk to dawn. Riders must follow all local traffic laws and regulations.

Although bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as motorists and are subject to the same rules and regulations, it is crucial that bicyclists pay attention to traffic signs and signals and follow all rules to reduce the risk of collisions, while on the road. Refer to the California Driver Handbook to become familiar with these rules. This excerpt is found at the DMV website for Sharing the Road (FFDL37) and can be read here.

If a RUSA member or Non-RUSA member event participant rides behind, side by side, in front of (a distance long enough or close enough in proximity that indicates they are riding together), or gives/receive assistance from/to non-registered riders it is a violation of the event rules. Any violation of the RUSA/Event rules will be grounds for instant disqualification. No exceptions!
